What is EEG?
EEG, or electroencephalography, measures electrical activity in the brain. Your brain is composed of billions of neurons. These neurons communicate with each other via a network of synapses, and synapses fire electrical or chemical signals. The total electrical energy from trillions of synapses working at once becomes a measurable electrical output. EEG measures this output, and very specific amounts and types of electrical energy emitted from the brain correlate to different mental states. A basic example: slow brainwaves indicate sleep and faster waves indicate wakefulness.
What does the Axio measure?
Axio uses three silver-chloride dry electrodes to measure neural activity in the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex is the region of the brain most associated with executive function, which generally refers to focused activity. Examples of cognitive tasks categorized as executive function include attention, problem solving, information processing, verbal reasoning, and others. So, certain brainwave readings taken by our EEG headband correlate to ideal executive function. We can relay this information to you, and can therefore tell you when you're "in the zone."
